What it looks like - Encoder / Tuning Knob
The Encoder / Tuning knob has a 6mm diameter hole and is secured to the spindle of the encoder, potentiometer or variable capacitor with a grub screw running through a captive square nut in the body of the knob.

Height: 27mm
Base diam: 46mm
Top diam: 44.5mm
Bottom recess diam: 25mm
Recess Depth: 5mm
Number of grooves: never counted them.
They start about 5mm from the base and extend to the top.
Mounting Method.
The Encoder / Tuning knob has a 6mm diameter hole and is secured to the spindle of the encoder, potentiometer or variable capacitor with a grub screw running through a captive M3 square nut in the body of the knob. These are provided with the knob.
The grub screw is adjusted using an allen key from your own toolbox.
You can see the recess to conceal any hardware used to secure the body of the encoder, potentiometer or other device to the enclosure.
